Video contests are one creative way earn tuition money. Bridgestone Americas and The Christophers are offering scholarship money for great videos.
Why Parents and Students Need to Be Creative
The cost of college has skyrocketed in recent years. If the parents of a college-age student happen to be hard-working, middle class people, the student will probably not qualify for any grants or subsidized loans. Most of these parents pray for academic or sports scholarships. If the student is just an average student or athlete, the parents and student need to become creative in finding other ways to pay for college.
Bridgestone Americas Safety Scholars Contest
If students have a valid driver’s license, they can enter a video contest and win a $5000 scholarship. Bridgestone Americas is offering scholarship money through its Safety Scholars Contest.
Students, ages 16-21, who are enrolled full-time at an accredited secondary, college level or trade school in the 50 United States and District of Columbia can make a video 25 or 55 seconds in length. The video should focus on a topic relating to automobile safety and/or automotive environmentalism.
Judges will select the top 10 videos from all the videos submitted. These top videos will be posted on the website, the MySpace profile, the FaceBook profile and the YouTube profile where the public can vote. The top ten video makers will all receive free tires. Three finalists will each win a $5,000 scholarship.
The video should show ways to improve driver safety for their peers. The 2009 contest begins on May 27, 2009 and ends on June 17, 2009. For additional requirements and information, go to the Safetyscholars.com website.
The Christophers’ Video Contest
College students can earn tuition money through the Christophers’ Video Contest. The first place prize is $3,000, second place prize is $2,000 and third place prize is $1,000. Students need to make a film or video that is five minutes or less in length that best communicates The Christophers' belief that "one person can make a difference.”
The Christophers, a nonprofit organization founded in 1945, has a basic message that “there’s nobody like you, and you can make a difference.” The requirements and additional information can be found at the Christophers website.
In these tough economic times, students and parents need to continually be creative in looking for ways to pay for college. Students who are creative and who have a camera can funnel their creativity into a short video that can win cash for college.
